Serve the Lord and Make Your Human Birth Truly Successful
Hare Krishna! Jai Jagannath!
Dear devotees,
Human birth is extremely rare and precious. Having attained this divine opportunity, our true purpose is to engage in the loving service of the Supreme Lord.
The Divine Purpose of Life
janma karma ca me divyam
evaà yo vetti tattvataù
tyaktvä dehaà punar janma
naiti mäm eti so ‘rjuna
(Bhagavad Gita 4.9)
“One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna..”
Great saints have reminded us that life is uncertain—death can come at any time. Therefore, the wealth, time, and energy we earn through hard work should be used in the service of God. By doing so, we make our human birth truly successful.
As poet Madhusudan Rao beautifully said:
“ବାଲ୍ୟକାଳୁ ଧର୍ମ- ଧନ ମୁଁ ସଞ୍ଚିବି
ଏ ଜୀବନ ଅନିଶ୍ଚିତ ,
କେ ଜାଣେ କାହାର
ଆଜି ମୃତ୍ୟୁ କାଳ
ହୋଇଯିବ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ।”
“From childhood, I will deposit the wealth of Dharma.
This life is uncertain—who knows whose death will come today?”
And as Prahlada Maharaj instructs:
kaumära äcaret präjïo
dharmän bhägavatän iha
durlabhaà mänuñaà janma
tad apy adhruvam arthadam
“One who is sufficiently intelligent should use the human form of body from the very beginning of life—in other words, from the tender age of childhood—to practice the activities of devotional service, giving up all other engagements. The human body is most rarely achieved, and although temporary like other bodies, it is meaningful because in human life one can perform devotional service. Even a slight amount of sincere devotional service can give one complete perfection.”
The Spirit of Offering
“Patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ yo me bhaktyā prayacchati
Tadahaṁ bhaktyupahṛtam aśnāmi prayatātmanaḥ.”
(Bhagavad Gita 9.26)
“If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or a little water, I accept it.”
Even the smallest offering made with love and sincerity is accepted by the Lord. Let every action in our life become an offering to Him.
“Yat karoṣi yad aśnāsi yaj juhoṣi dadāsi yat
Yat tapasyasi kaunteya tat kuruṣva mad-arpaṇam.”
(Bhagavad Gita 9.27)
“O son of Kunti! Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give in charity, whatever austerity you perform—do that as an offering unto Me.”
